From Plan to Action: Supervision from a Place of Humility and Cultural Responsiveness

Beyond ethics codes and scholarly texts, lies a world of complex interpersonal relationships between supervisors and supervisees. Just as we attend to every step of the relationship with clients and stakeholders, from intake to discharge, we should attend to every step of the supervisory relationship through a lens of cultural responsiveness. In this talk, we will discuss supervisory practices that align with cultural responsiveness, describe specific strategies you can implement right away and skills to develop, and emphasize the importance of assessment and adjustment of our practice to ensure it is aligned with the individual needs and values of supervisees.

By the end of this presentation participants will:

1. Describe best practices for establishing and monitoring a culturally responsive supervisory practice

2. Describe strategies for engaging in culturally responsive supervision

3. Implement a tool for assessing the quality and effectiveness of their supervisory practice
